Entry #10 - Alan Garcia and His Strange Ending

Image
Alan Garcia and His Strange Ending Hi everyone! Yesterday I went to see a movie called "Vivo o Muerto." It's about the mysterious death of Alan García, who was once the President of Peru. The movie caught all my attention because it suggests that Dr. García MIGHT STILL HE ALIVE!!, despite being known as very clever and that there are many things that just don't add up.  Who Was Alan García?  I'm pretty sure you don't know this ex-president, but Alan García was an important political leader in Peru, serving as president twice from 1985 to 1990 and again from 2006 to 2011. He was well-known for his powerful speeches. However, his time in politics was also filled with controversy, like accusations of corruption. His life ended on April 17 of 2019, when he shot himself as police came to arrest him in a big corruption case, "Lava Jato Case".  The Mystery Around García's Death  Although it was said that Garc...

Entry #9 - Junk food ads trigger positive emotions

Image
Junk food ads trigger positive emotions, healthy foods not so much Hello guys! I was surfing the web today and this really interesting picture and article that got me thinking. It's about how we make choices about food, especially when we see certain ads. Ads vs. Reality This image is very curious, a boy is looking at a juicy hamburger while he's eating healthy. When I clicked the image, I realized that the University of Michigan was talking about this image! It says that when we see ads for junk food, we feel all these good vibes, but when it's ads for healthy stuff, it doesn't hit us the same way. Junk Food Advertising It's kind of funny how that works. You can be sitting there with your fruits or veggies, but then you see an ad for a pizza or a cheeseburger, and suddenly your food doesn't look so exciting anymore. Those ads have loud music, bright colors, and sometimes even your favorite celebrities. They're not just selling food; they're selling fun....

Entry #8 - U.S. GOVERNMENT VS APPLE

Image
U.S. GOVERNMENT VS APPLE Hey everyone! I recently watched on YouTube the legal dispute between Apple and the United States Department of Justice. I found this video so interesting that today I will break down the essence of this case and we will see what the future holds for us.  Support of Accusations  The US government is concerned about Apple's monopolistic position and believes that Apple is taking the wrong path by preventing fair competition in the technology market. Among a variety of accusations, including preventing app development.  What does Apple Say  Apple claims that its means for such a move are nothing more than innovative means to improve the user experience, without trying to deceive anyone, but the lawsuit could cause the company to be misunderstood and therefore block the Apple's ability to innovate.  The Broader Implications  It has already moved beyond the legal battlefield to b...

Entry #7 - Fresh, a movie by Ana Sofia Joanes

Image
Fresh, a movie by Ana Sofia Joanes When I first saw the documentary Fresh by Ana Sofía Joanes I couldn't believe that I didn't know all those things before, but something inside me told me that it was just the beginning. This film encourages us to rethink the sustainability of our food system through its ethical approach. It tells us about the profound impact of each decision related to food production on the environment, health and society. Fresh's tone can be scary and hopeful at the same time, creating a balance that keeps it engaging rather than alienating readers. The film focuses on the stories of farmers and food advocates who are leading the way in sustainable agriculture. These stories not only serve as inspiring stories, but also portray real models that people can use to build a sustainable and more just food system. If you watch this movie, I'm sure it will stir up a variety of emotions, including shock and...

Entry #5 - Allstate Mayhem commercial

Image
Hey guys! So, I chose this Mayhem ad to talk about today because it's just so funny and full of surprises. Let's get into it and see what's happening in the ad. We start with a boy trying to ask his girlfriend to prom in a big way. He's got candles lit and everything. It's supposed to be super romantic. But then, Mayhem, the guy in the commercials who's always in troubles He says, "And tonight, sparks are gonna fly." And wow, do they fly! Not the good kind of sparks, though. The candles start a fire! This ad is funny because it goes from a sweet moment to a big mess so fast. Stacey’s dad isn’t happy, coming out with a fire extinguisher. You can hear him say, "DARN IT, KYLE!" like this kind of stuff happens a lot. The boy is super sorry, but this doesn't turn off the fire lol. Allstate is saying that crazy things can happen any time. But if you have Allstate, you won't have t...

Entry #4 - VAR in Football: Savior Technology or Killer of Excitement?

Image
VAR in Football: Savior Technology or Killer of Excitement? Hey everyone! I’m super excited to dive into something that’s been swirling in my mind, especially after an experience I had recently at the stadium. Last week, my granddad and I went to see Melgar FC, our beloved team from Arequipa, play against Unión Comercio. It was a nail-biter of a match, tied 1-1, until the final minutes when a controversial goal unleashed a whirlwind of emotions. Initially, the goal was called offside. But after some insistence, the main referee decided to consult VAR. There we were, my granddad and I, holding our breath through fifteen agonizing minutes of anxiety. We even saw the opposing goalie trying to leave the pitch, utterly frustrated. In the end, joy erupted as the goal was validated, giving Melgar a crucial victory . This rollercoaster of emotions got me thinking: what role does VAR really play in football? A Quick Detour on VAR I know many ...
